 Re: What are you reading?
Got through all the books - and couldnt believe it. I sent them all back to amazon. **pounds fist on desk "Take them away!!*** Out of all of them, I liked book 1 and 4, but it still wasnt enough (at least for me) to even keep them in my collection. Granted, I know it was written for a teenage audience but dang! I had read somewhere else that diehard Twilight fans were furious over book 4 and I thought what? That's one of the good ones! I have picked up my old favorite Anne Rice to tide me over until book 9 comes out in the Stackhouse series. What's a girl got to do to get a little decent vamp literature around here! haha!

 Re: What are you reading?
I didn't mind book 4, but I didn't think it fit in wtih the feel of the first three books as well as it could have. I actually own Twilight and BD, I don't mind them at all, but it's far from my favouite series. Like I said before, I'm so on the fence because I love them while I'm reading them and hate them afterwards. As for good vamp books, check out http://lovevampires.com/. All things vampire books, plus that's where I found out about TB. So far, in a decade full of all the vamp books I can find, nothing compares with Anne Rice. Those books are classic, and I think Lestat will last as long as Dracula in pop culture.

Woo, long time no post.
Slap me if I've asked this already, but has anyone read any of the Anita Blake books?
Right now I'm reading Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. It's been on my To Read list since I saw the title in a bookstore when I was much younger, and I just now got around to reading it.

 Re: What are you reading?
I read an Anita Blake book once because I heard so many good things but it totally didn't appeal to me. I love vampire/werewolf books, but necromancy made it too fantasy for my liking. Mostly, though, i just didn't like anita. I've heard that those books are really popular, though.

 Re: What are you reading?
I haven't seen the movie, but I think it would probably work better that way than as a book.
It's written by a journalist, so it's kind of stiff and boring, and really long.

 Re: What are you reading?
And I completely forgot to update with what I'm reading now. I've been reading a lot of mysteries in the past year or so, and last month started reading a mystery series by Kate Atkinson. The first book is called Case Histories. I have to say that this is by far my favorite so far. Even better than the Carol O'Connell. Anyway, after I finished that I started Heartsick by Chelsea Cain (so far, pretty good), and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer, who also wrote Everything Is Illuminated- one of the few book-to-movie translations where I thought the movie was far superior.

 Re: What are you reading?
Haha, althea, I had a VERY similar reaction to Twilight. I started and then became obsessed with the series but when I was done I realized how little of the 4 books I actually enjoyed. From book 2 forward, Bella just irritated the f**k out of me and it's hard to enjoy a book when I wish the main character would disappear (or die). And I have NEVER before read a fantasy series that ends with a... diplomatic resolution to the "fighting." Ugh.
Anyway, as to the original post's question... I am currently reading the second book of Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld series, "The Darkest Kiss." Only about 50 pages in but it certainly hasn't grabbed my interest like the first book did. I think I just liked the characters book 1 ("The Darkest Night") concentrated on more than these others AND I feel book 2 is predictable so far. We'll see though, could turn around.

 Re: What are you reading?
I'm glad I'm not the only one irritated by Bella! She might be one of the most boring and WHINY main characters I've ever come across.
I've been so busy lately that I haven't had much time to read, but I'm working on Behind the Scenes at the Museum by Kate Atkinson... putting off reading the next book in her mystery series!

 Re: What are you reading?
I finally re-read book 4 of Twilight - I had to force myself pratically - but I got through it. Shame it wasnt like that for books 2 and 3. WAH! come on Charlaine Harris!!!! lol

 Re: What are you reading?
Right now I'm reading the new Vampire Diaries books - I loved them as a kid and I love that she's continuing the series now all these years later. I really need to read some stuff that isn't about vampires, huh?
