 Show vs Books
I was just wondering what everyone thought about the way True Blood has been adapted for TV. I personally think that so far they've managed to stay pretty close to the book so far, and most of the extra storylines they've invented have been believable in the Sookieverse as we know it. Unfortunately, from spoilers I've read on other websites I have a feeling that in the next few episodes we may be deviating from the original story a little bit, especially when it comes to Sookie being saved from Longshadow. So, what are everyone else's thoughts on what they loved/hated in the way Dead Until Dark has been made into True Blood?

 Re: Show vs Books
I agree, most of the show is staying close to the books - except of course the extra story lines (especially with Jason and Tara). I guess the network feels its got to add a little extra spice to the show. I personally would like to see the show word for word outta the book - but I knw thats asking too much! haha. As for the spoilers I've seen pertaining to Longshadow - I think that part pretty much stays the same - but I hear that it's Bill who kills him not Eric. Dont know how they will play it out - unfortunatley we can only wait and see on Sunday. *I want to see it now!!!!!

I like it so far. Part of the fun (at least you hope so) of an adaptation is seeing what they keep the same and what they change. Compared to some other adaptations I've seen (Mysts of Avalon comes to mind), I think they've been very true to the book, and where they've embellished, they've kept it in the same vein.

 Re: Show vs Books
I actually find myself enjoying most of the extra storylines, but at the same time I wish there was more of the vampires. I mean, if they can invent a new character like Tara (because she is so not the same Tara as the books) I don't know why we can't hear more about the Shreveport vampires. I know I've said it before, but Eric and Pam are the most entertaining characters in the books, although I guess in the show they've decided to make Jason the comic relief. I keep hearing people complain about all his sexploits and V addiction but I always find myself laughing hardest at those bits. I think show Jason might actually be one of my favourites.

Jason is growing on me, too. I think it took me a while to realize that we're supposed to be laughing at him.
I wouldn't be surprised if there are more vampires in the next season.

 Re: Show vs Books
I am wondering how they are going to play out Bill going to the tribunal, when in the book it was Eric who commited the crime and paid the fine? And what is up with the junk yard look for the tribunal? Dang! (LOL)

 Re: Show vs Books
I see that this thread started a long time ago, during season one of the show, but I thought it would be a good one to revisit now that season two is done with.
Does anyone else feel like they're reading one story and watching another? Like, Sookie's life and exploits in two parallel universes or something? At the beginning of season one I noticed only minor alterations to the storyline but now, despite having read and reread every novel, I have NO CLUE what to expect on True Blood Season 3!
Perhaps it's because I watched all of season one before I started the books - but I actually can't decide if I have a preference between tv series and book series. I really love both stories - although I feel AB dragged the maenad plot on for WAY too long and I am also ready for a Sookie/Bill split cause even if I did like Bill (which I do not), there's only so much excitement that can be created in a stable, monogamous relationship.
Thoughts?

 Re: Show vs Books
before series two I would have agreed with you - by the end of it I have to say that I much, much prefer the books.
....although that doesn't mean that I don't like TB, it's just that the vast majority of things that make me love the books have been removed from or completely distorted for the show. Even so, I still think it's one of the best shows on TV right now.
